How do clinical trials work?

Clinical trials are a vital step in developing new medical treatments. They test whether an investigational treatment is safe and effective before it can be approved by the FDA. People choose to participate in clinical trials for many reasons. For some, it is an opportunity to help advance medical research. For others it is a chance to gain access to experimental therapies. But it is important to remember that participation in a clinical trial is voluntary. You only take part if you want to and you can stop participating in a clinical trial at any time.
